Your network, it's simply the members who you want to share your documents and posts with, and keep in touch with in general.
As soon as you add people to your network, you are invited to categorize them as friends, relatives or casual contacts. This choice determines what they'll be able to see in your space.
The more close friends you have within your network, the more you'll get out of ipernity. You can share your holiday films, pictures of your children, or evenings with friends all in complete privacy. In addition, you can meet friends of friends or renew contact with distant cousins.
And with ipernity, it's also a way to showcase your talents.
After all, why take the best photos in the world if nobody sees?
When you add a person to your network, you specify their relationship to you:
- A friend
- A family member
- Both, Family and Friend (i.e. a childhood friend who knows your friends and your family)
- A contact (Good for when you discover a member on ipernity, who you want to keep track of). This choice is implicit: don't check off "Friend" or "Family" for an invited person to be added as a contact.
The choice is important because it determines what they will be allowed to see in your space:
- A friend will have access to your documents and posts marked for "Friends"
- A member of your family can see your documents and posts marked for "Family"
- A member of Family & Friends will have an opportunity to see items that you share with "Friends" or "Family"
- A contact will only have access to your own shares that are "Public"
- Everyone will have access to your "Public" content whether or not they're an ipernity member.

The fastest and most convenient way is to import your address book: you invite all your friends and family with one click and you automatically see who's already on ipernity.
If you prefer the classic invitation, go to My network / Invite by email.
In both cases, be sure to check the boxes for family and/or friends (if the person will be considered as such) to determine what they'll have the right to see your space.
Be warned, once a person has accepted your invitation they are automatically added to your network.
Yes you can import your contacts from Hotmail, Yahoo Mail, Gmail, Outlook, etc. This eases the creation of your network because you can invite all your friends and family with one click!
Go to the Invite / Use your address book page.
Once an invitation is accepted, you'll receive a message telling you the person has been added to your network. You can also check your invitation history.
When you add an ipernity member to your network, they automatically appear in your network.
It's easy. Mouse-over the member's photo, click on the blue arrow then hit "Add to your network".
The addition is automatic.
You can also do it by visiting their home page and clicking on "Add X to your contacts?"
Yes. Who doesn't want to know that they have fans?
The member you added to your network was alerted. They will then have the opportunity to add you to their network.
A member bothers you? Don't panic, the "Block this person" function can fix the situation.
This means he or she:
- Will be removed from your network, and also on "You are their contact" pages
- Will no longer be connected with you
- Can no longer post a comment in your space (and all their comments will be deleted)
- Can no longer send you a message or chat with you (and all their messages will be deleted)
- Can no longer participate in any way in your space
- Will certainly be sad about your decision, but it's your choice
But they can always view your public documents and posts.
If you are sure you want to block a member, they should no longer be part of your network. If they are, you must first remove them. Then mouse over their member icon, hit the blue arrow and hit "Block"
You can unblock the person at any time, however, the items removed as a result of the block will not be restored.
On ipernity as in life, relationships evolve. So, perhaps a contact could become a friend. Modifying your network is possible at any time: Go to "Manage Your Network" (accessible from the "My Network" menu), and roll your mouse over a member photo, then click on the blue arrow and hit "Change".
This page displays all the members who are not part of your network, but have added you to their network. You may want to visit their space, and why not in turn add them to your network!
As many as you want! The more the merrier ;-)
