Humpback whales can be identified by the pattern of white and black on the underside of their flukes. This is a female named Spoon who has been seen since 1976! She has had many calves and is a favorite of Whale watch boats in the Gulf of Maine

I saw her on a whale watch.

I hope this beautiful sight will get rather more frequent in the future than becoming more and more rare!

Yes it worries me too! But I work for Allied Whale which holds the North Atlantic Humpback catalog and there are over 6,000 known whales so that is good.
