Mårbacka

Home of Selma Lagerlöf who received/won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1909, the first woman to receive the prize. She was born at Mårbacka in 1858 and died there in 1940. Her father was forced to sell the house in 1884, something that caused Selma great sorrow. Through the sales of her books she was able to buy it back.
A very special place - if you are anywhere near Mårbacka, you should visit.

Wunderbar, dass es Selma Lagerlöf gelungen ist, ihr Elternhaus wieder zu kaufen. Ein schönes Gebäude!

Luckily, she was much better in handling her finances than her father was and she really did a fantastic job with both the house and the farm. It looked a lot different when she grew up in it - that typical swedish red and considerably smaller. It is a fantastic place to visit.
