Supension of Disbelief 

Interesting light effect here. The droplets behind the large droplets are refracted and stretched out in the top of the droplet where inversion is not occurring. In the out-of-focus foreground drops in upper right, you can see the out-of-focus points of light being refracted nonetheless.
