Late Capitalism

Late Capitalism is the label applied to the times we are currently living in, at least from an economic point of view. However, its effects are felt beyond financial concerns. Late Capitalism is defined by a number of "trends". Examples are; global commerce and the "global market" (aided by technological developments) and an increasing trend towards the growth of Capitalism. For example, a monetary focus on areas of work that were traditionally regarded as non-capitalist, that pertained to a "mixed economy" that, now appears to be under threat, at least in the UK.

The current state of Western economies (in particular) and, to a degree economies throughout the World have caused some experts and theorists to call for limitations to be put on Capitalist activity, or a reconsideration of the types of activity that are conducive to Capitalism. Some have stated that Capitalism is no longer working.

My personal opinion is that a mixed economy is more conducive to individual well-being and societal harmony, than an increasingly "free market" or capitalist economy. This is because certain areas of public service and other human activity are immeasurable in financial terms and they may become inoperable when measured by "profit and loss".
