Grain elevator fire

I took this last summer while in Dawson Creek, BC on a job. It was a hot day and the grain got hot and ignited by itself. By this time the fire department just backed away and kept other things from burning.

It's hard to believe that it wasn't arson...I've never heard of grain catching on fire by itself.

Surprisingly, it does happen. It's the same with rags that have been used with Linseed Oil. They create so much heat, they catch fire. This was an unusually hot day here.

Not much can be done about a fire like that! Just back away and let it burn itself out. Great piece of video history John!

Great photography! Oddly, I spent the weekend at the Mill Museum in Minneapolis. They had a devastating grain/flour explosion that blew out and burned most of this mill.

Thanks, It's common, and one of the reasons crops are left in the fields to dry.
