Anand is a majhi (hindi word for boatman) in Varanasi (Benaras).
I know him since a few years and whenever I need to go from one part of the city ot the other I usually ask him to carry me on river Ganga with his boat.
In summers few tourists come and he doesn't work as much as he wants so he comes to see me in office, sometimes we go for a walk and I take my camera.
His favorite topic is about his beautiful girlfriend, he hopes to marry her soon, once he manages to make enough money in order to get her mother's approval.
Everyday he goes to a little akhara near main ghat where he exercises with other Pahalwani (Indian wrestlers).
He asked me to be in our new catalogue and recently I took this picture of him with one of our throws.
I think that it was the hotest day of the season, we had to bring an huge fan to the upper terrace but it couldn't avoid the sweat.
Pehlwani is connected to Greco-Roman wrestling and the poses that Anand kept striking made me think of that Indo-Greek kingdom which existed in northern and northwestern India from the 2nd century BCE to the beginning of the 1st century CE.
