The Race!

Saturday September 6, 2008 at 07:22PM

Me and Anita entered a very serious and tough race last weekend. We came in last place and most race cars finished the race in half our time.

Here are the different vehicles..

This is ours. A very deadly race machine! Its actually

a normal transport thing in Norway in wintertime. Look much like a pair of skies with a chair on top.

Anita!

Here we are test driving the deadly wonder before the race. Problem was breaks and stearing. we figured that we didn't need breaks but we might need to turn the thing...the race track was a very long left turn. This made it possible to rule out the right turn and just concentrate on the left. We never really managed...

Just before the race feeling very confident..

At the top...ready for take off.

Here we are in the first round...we were lucky with the picture...just before this we were very eligantly jumping it back on track trying desparetly not to hit the many people watching us make fools of ourselves..

Here we have our cheerleaders...they hid well :-) They had 2 signs as well...but I don't know where they hid them.

Creative ways :-)

This really was a wonderful car! There is a lot of time and cursing behind this. And we also were very happy that the driver is around the same age as us..almost all drivers were kids.

Of course there was accidents..surprisingly many. One never made it to the finishline, others got bad fleshwounds and some just got a bit shaken :-)

Can't wait for next years race!

We did! But much of the fun is also before the day of the race. Just enjoying the silly idea we had and then the climax of everything being as utterly silly as we imagined :-) Just with the improvement that we managed to pass the finishline

Heh. I participated in this ... hmmm ... must be about 20 years ago. I remember coming way down the list, but still winning a little trophy that was donated by the local bank. I think mom puts flowers in it now. At least I got no flesh wounds.

Oh, and Wikipedia says sparkstøtting is kicksled in English.

Yes I remember. Though I don't know if I ever watched it? I asked mom how you did and she said she couldn't remember, but she thought that in one of the races dad took over and finished the race because he couldn't stand to see the wonder car loose. I think he helped build it...and he is a child still :-)

I couldn't find the english name for spark...kicksled makes sense, though kickchair is more fun :-)

I can't recall if you watched it. In fact, I can't recall anything very much about it, except being very disappointed at not winning.

Did dad take over? I can't recall, but it would be very like him to get perhaps a bit too involved in the race. :)

I asked her again about the story with dad and she said that at the beginning of the race she had told you to drive very carefully because it was a possible danger of flesh wounds...Then dad had started to argue and became quite difficult. He didn't care about any dangers, he wanted that car to win! So he took over and raced down the hill. Though she didn't say how he did. I can picture him clearly in my mind...the silly man :-) Any childish thing I do i just blame it on him. He is the one that passed it on....I never asked to be born the way I am :-)

Fantastic. We used to have one of those races, but the city fathers decided it was too dangerous.

Silje replies:
Hehe...I think there was at least one father that had this thought. It is dangerous, but I think what the kids get out of it is worth the risks. Also they choose the limits themselves. And everyone survives a broken bone :-)
