I am getting bored :-(

Wednesday August 29, 2007 at 01:30AM

Are people happy with how things are here on Ipernity, or is there something you would like to see done differently to try to make this site a little bit more interesting? I came from flickr so my first question would be where is all the fun here? Is this site only for storing documents, or do we want it to be a little bit more lively than it is now? What direction will Ipernity take in the nearest future? I asked about groups few weeks ago and I was told that because so many people were asking the same question I could expect to see some groups here soon. I don’t see any groups yet. I wonder if anyone listens to our suggestions or is our role in keeping this site running only to upload photos and to pay!

I am sorry to say but I am not having much fun here at the moment. I just post my photos, look at what my new friends are doing, and then I check out the fun and the action on flickr. People might be happy with everything exactly how it is, so the problem might just be me :) To be honest there is nothing much going on here. I have only been here for few weeks but it did not take long for me to find out that this site is not as much alive as Flickr.

I have noticed that there are many people here that were unhappy at Flickr. Some of it had to do with censorship but some people got tiered of groups and people handing out trophies and invitations. I am not here because I got tiered of Flickr. I am here because Ipernity offered some interesting options. I think it is great to have Blog, and it is a good option to be able store music and videos. We are able to see who comes for a visit, which can be nice, but other than that this site is getting very boring.

Some things were set up to make this site more interesting, but in my opinion it doesn't work that well. “What’s Hot” was probably set up so we could have some fun, but that site is as cold as it can get. The name itself is so wrong because the same photos are there day after day. “Most Visited” might be a better name for that site. Don’t get me wrong; most of the photos there are nice and interesting, but I get so tiered of looking at the same photos day after day. I just might be a little irritated because my photos are never there :)

“Latest Docs and Posts” are there so we can see what people are posting, but that site doesn’t work that well either. If someone uploads 100 documents at a time then all the persons that uploaded documents before him will not been seen. It should be enough for us to see few photos from each person that is uploading dozen’s of photos every day.

“What’s Hot” and “Latest Docs and Posts” are not the reason why I am so bored. My opinion is that we need to get some groups going if we want to try to get some life into this site. Like I mention earlier some people are here because they didn’t like groups on flickr. If that is the case, we will have to try to find a way so people won’t get bothered with trophies and invitations to groups if they don’t want anything to do with it.

Without wanting to sound too pushy I just want to say this, WE NEED GROUPS NO LATER THAN NOW :-):-) Was that loud enough for you? :) I hope I haven’t startled some of my new Ipernity friends :)

Have fun and remember to comment on my photos to keep me happy :)

I agree groups would make the whole place a bit more vivid, the chances to see pictures from other people than your contacts will also increase by having groups. But I still hope the whole awarding stuff will not be introduced...

I am happy to see that people seams to wants groups.

Instead of getting rid of the awarding stuff we should try to find a way, so people that doesn’t like it won’t get bothered with it. I don’t know how that would work, but I am sure the intelligent people that are running this site will find a way to solve that problem.

We want groups, we wants groups, we want groups.
And the "What's hot" thingy is anything but hot - needs to be worked on. I don't know what algorithms are used but they need to be worked on.
I like being here, I like the atmosphere and the people I have met, but more action would be a good thing.
It is not the awarding kind of action I am talking about. I think most of us are happy NOT to go down that particular road.

Eitthvað verðum við að gera til að koma smá fjöri í þessa síðu :)

Ég sé að fólk virðist almennt vilja grúbbur en svo sé ég að sumir eru á móti þessum trophy afhendingum. Þetta hefur ekki truflað mig mikið. Ég viðurkenni að ég hef stundum ekki nennt að standa í þessu þegar mikið er að gera, en svo þegar ég hef lítð að gera þá enda ég alltaf á að senda mínir myndir í þessar grúbbur :)

Það tekur mig stundum svo langan tíma að svara á Ensku og því bið ég þig að afsaka þó ég svari þér á Íslensku.

It is summer - many people are taking long breaks away from computers. Others are busy outdoors. Myself I'm so busy working I barely have time to eat let alone visit and comment as much as I'd like to. Never mind making new photos. Other people may have similar time constraints now. All to say...

The groups may help to alleviate some of your frustrations but there is a natural, seasonal, ebb and tide to activity that is apparent even on flickr.

I agree too that 'what's hot' is very static.

I read somewhere that summer was over in Germany :) I am sure you are right about why Ipernity is so slow at this moment. People should take brakes while the weather is nice :)

I am sure it will be much easier to run sites like "What's Hot" if we have groups :) I did not have to write so much to say how unhappy I was. It might have been enough for me to say that I just wanted groups :)

No, it's not only you, but there is really a large group of people who like it that the site is so small. This people have moved with their whole community from flickr to ipernity and they do not care much what happened outside their own small world.

It's a problem that there not enough people who are interested mainly in the photosharing aspect beyond there own community...

There are 2 types of people here..... those that promote other photographers than themselves, and those that don't.
I thought that groups were needed, and I think it might help some, but I have no trouble finding new contacts and good photos....

I'm happy I found this post in your blog. I too came from flickr and have to admit, I love my groups there (at flickr). I like the "home page" here though. There are pluses and minuses on both flickr and ipernity. I have much more activity at flickr but I'm hoping that in time there will be more interaction here at ipernity.

Personally, I hope groups don't follow flickr's lead - eg. thousands of ugly group invite messages in all the photos you try and view. I stopped using 'explore last 7 days interesting' on flickr because of this (painfully slow on dialup) and that really sucked because you got to see some amazing photos. Now I concentrate on my contacts photos and appreciate them. That's why I think ipernity is a little better - the whole 'network' thing really works well, and there aren't any annoying invite images yet! By slowly expanding my network here i've found that I get waaaay more visits through that than from groups. Groups are cool and have their place, but I think here on ipernity the whole interpersonal relationship thing takes precedence over groups.

Please please please everyone, don't bring the image invite stuff here!

You are right though - I haven't bought a pro account because there are so many things that don't quite work right or well enough to shell out cash for an account. Once it matures and starts really gelling together well then i'll certainly start paying for it.

I agree with Ojisanjake, take a look through your network (extended network too) instead of groups and you might start finding some fun :)

(my humble opinion :)

I get invitations to groups once in a while but I only join groups that fits me and I think are interesting. I have been invited to join groups like China and Indian Song, but I have no photos from those places so why should I join. I was sure that without groups Ipernity would not get interesting but I have to admit that I often forget to put my photos to those groups :)

Whats hot is much better now than it was few months ago but it is not as good as last 7 days interesting. The reason in my opinion is that photos in whats Hot are there for too long; seven days should be long enough :) Thanks for taking the time to tell me your opinion :)
