autumn

That means saying farewell to the summerhouse for the season. We took a stroll in the woods the day before we left and I am uploading a few shots. Not much photoshopping, more or less the "real deal" so to speak.

Copenhagen Photo Marathon

As of 11:00 today, I will be taking part in the Copenhagen Photo Marathon. Every 4 hours the participants get 4 new subjects - at 11:00, 15:00, 19:00 & 23:00 today and at 03:00 & 07:00 (Sunday) and then we deliver between 10:01 and 11:30 Sunday morning.

Please send a cheering thought my way - I know it will help me keep on going for all 24 hours.

Thank you :)

......

30 hours later and I am still alive and (almost) kicking. I made it and now I just have to wait for around 3 weeks for the results - and will post the shots then. It was great fun to do this!

ZOO

25 years ago I las visited a zoo. It made me so sad that I said to myself that I would not be going to a zoo anytime soon. So many unhappy animals gathered in one place.

Well. The zoo here in Copenhagen has been improving a lot of things, so a few weeks ago, Rebekka and I went to the Zoo. Things have improved, a lot, but there are still animals that imho seem pretty unhappy.

"The happiest elfants in the world" has been the slogan this summer. I don't know how they can figure that out on behalf of the animals. The happiest imprisoned elefants in the world, maybe :)

Anyway. I did bring the camera and now I have the time to do some uploading.

ND-filters (Neutral Density) 10 stops or ....?

pixie, ragnheidur, gurry gudfinns og sigjoi went shooting a while ago. Three of them have since then uploaded wonderful shots were they used Ragga's 10-stop ND filter ... the shots are so fabulous that we all want that filter and expect to have shots like that right away (in our dreams :) ). I was having my cellphone fixed today and had an hour to kill while the repairman did his magic. What else was there to do than visit my camera dealer I asked about the filters and he pointed out a solution that is something worth considering. Instead of buying one 10-stop filter, there is the possibility of buying two or even three. A 4-stop and a 6-stop for example and then you have three filters in one. You have 4 and 6 and as we know, filters can by joined by the hip, so to speak and then you have the ten. The camera guy's opinion was that the 10 stop filter was pretty limited and it would be more fun to be able to combine two or use one at a time.

Well, I thought I would share what he had to say about the different possibilities. Of course buying two filters is more expensive, but you don't have to buy them at the same time.

Over and out.

This year's vacation

Vacation 2008

A wonderful vacation, many interesting things to see, people to talk to, shots to be taken. Back home and going through them and uploading a few at a time. Picture-wise, I am still in Southern Norway, but on the move.

Waking up in unknown places

Waking up in a hotel is a strange thing, a new experience almost every time. You have never been there before. You were probably so tired when you collapsed the night before, you might not even remember where you are.

In April 2005 we had been driving by the Adriatic Sea, having spent a few days in Ljubljana in Slovenija and wanting to find a hotel somewhere on our way to Venice, and we did, in fact, have a hotel in mind in Caorle. It was really dark when we arrived, and the hotel was closed. So, we had to find another alternative. I might want to tell you right away, that we can easily sleep in the car, if need be, so if we didn't find a hotel, we would have survived. But middle aged bones like a proper bed :) I found a restaurant and went inside and considering that the owner did not speak any language I know, and I know a few, and my knowledge of Italian is more or less non-existent, I was pretty proud when came back to the car and could find the way to an open hotel. They had a vacant room that a wheelchair-user could use and we fell asleep looking forward to spending the next day in Venice. I remember that we discussed how far from the ocean we were, but since it was so dark, we had no idea. I woke up the next morning, went out on the balcony, but I could not figure if we were close to the beach or not. Imagine the surprise when we came down to breakfast and discovered that we were actually on the beach. We had a wonderful day in Venice, my second time there, Janke’s first. Some people thought we were crazy thinking one could visit Venice in a wheelchair, but it was fine. You can use the Vaporetti (waterbuses) to get just about anywhere you want, and that we did. There are no cars in Venice, so you park your car before you go into the city. And it is true; Venice is a city like no other.

The picture I just uploaded is from that morning. For me, a typical morning in a hotel, not really knowing where I am, but indeed enjoying the scenery, such as it was :) Next time when you wake up in a hotel and the only thing you see is a wall and a balcony, it does not, as you can see here, have to be all that bad.

The Nordic Light

No wonder painters have used Jutland and the unbelievable light there is here. The Skagen painters were a community of painters, mostly from Denmark and Sweden, who lived and worked in Skagen, the northernmost part of Denmark. I have only been there once, in 1984, and look forward to visit again this summer. Oh, actually I came very close in March of 1996 when I sailed past Skagen.

We went for a drive today, wanted to visit a nursery and find some flowers and herbs for the garden and the light was outstanding - it really takes my breath away to see how the light changes the scenery in a most magnificent way. We took one ferry on the way and the sea and the sky became one in a way. I hope to come to that shot in a while.

Country life for city dwellers

We arrived in Langvad Thursday Evening and what a welcome. A sunny day from morning to night and then late at night a little rain that made the plants very happy. Then into the next town yesterday to buy supplies and now we are all set for weeks of being away from the city. I have quite a bit of work with me - translation work that I have to finish in a hurry only received it yesterday) and photographs that I don´t have to do in a jiffy. It is truly wonderful to be back. Just turning out the light at night and be able to be in totatl darkness, something that is impossible in the city, and the silence. Mmmmagnificent.

Back in CPH

8 intensive days in Iceland came to a close today. It is good to be home and I wonder when all those shots I took will be ready and entered into our school's database. But I had fun too and ended my stay in a small town called Grindavík. In population it is small, but the fishing industry there is not so small. It is actually Gurry Gudfinns's home town. I'll upload some shots from Iceland as I go along, hoiping to upload the rest from Sweden to. I need to stay home :) next week we leave town to stay in the country. Janke for the whole summer - I´ll spend my time here ... and there.

Ipernity meeting on Ice

We met late last night, Oddur Jonsson, Pixie, Ragnheidur, Vala, Gurry and I and went hunting for the Northern lights. Apart from actually catching some Aurora Borealis, some of us found out that some of us actually have night vision, with out night vision binoculars and some of us are blind as bats and would rather go for a stroll than harming ourself climbing rocks in the middle of nowhere and in the middle of the night.

Because Oddur and I had the furthest to travel, me from Copenhagen and he from Isafjordur, our ETA was indeed the actual time of arrival. Those who live in Hafnarfjordur, the place we met, they came later than late :)

We had fun and as always, I learned a lot. Ok ok, it might not be so clear that I did learn something last night, but I did, I will just have to demonstrate that at another time :) Ragnheidur won a blue ribbon on dpchallenge this week, but we got no champagne and no cigars. Luckily, we are a patient bunch of shooters.

Thanks for the fun, I am glad we could do this at such short notice.
