Still searching for a more stable job...
... but in the meantime I continue some old consulencies.
Currently I'm the tutor of five new entrepreneurs, disseminated around the place where I live.
Italy is divided in twenty administrative units called Regioni. Every Regione is divided in one or more Provincie.
I live in the Regione Marche, in the middle Italy, on the Adria Sea.
It is a small Regione, both as dimensions and as number of inhabitants, well preserved. Small, smooth hills gently degrading to the Sea. A lot of middle to little very flexible enterprises and a lot of History disseminated all around the hills: castles, ruines, old churches and abbeys, some little natural parks.
I always have with me my two cameras when I make consultancies and coaching. I was disappointed by my kit lens, but I re-discovered the Canon DPP software: it is the best RAW converter for my camera, but I hadn't used it because it had problems with my video card on Wine/Ubuntu.
Waiting to have more cash to buy the Canon 50 f1.8 and a tele (55/200 or 70/300), I can only show you what my 18/55 is able to capture.
After showing you Portonovo and Ancona in a previous blog entry, this time I add to the Wandering album some shots of the hills between Arcevia and Serra de' Conti:

I hope to have the time to add more Marche shots during the next weeks.

I had the same disappointing experience with my Canon 18-55mm kit lens--sigh, I don't understand why can't canon make a decent lens that is not outrageously expensive (I suppose I know the answer). I bought the 50mm f1.8 for $70 what a great lens--that's the only decent cheap lens Canon makes. There was the same version for $300. The only difference was the more expensive one had some metal parts while the one I got was a plastic one--the mount is metal of course. It is very light and a fantastic lens for the money. I hope I 'll have enough money to buy an L series lens one of these days but until then I suppose I can daydream about one.
Have a fantastic weekend.

Canon makes a decent 18-55m lens, the one that goes in kit with the new 450D; I think you can find the 18-55IS at a street price around 150$.
I'll buy the 50f1.8 in the forthcoming weeks; the 50f1.4 is a disappointing lens: it costs 2.5 times the f1.8 and has a greater barrel distortion... there is a f1.2 priced around 15 times the f1.8: too much for an amateur.
I found a used 28f2.8 at around 250€: too much for me...
After the 50mm, the only chance is to buy a Sigma or Tamron 55/200 or 70/300: not very pricey, not of great quality, but better than nothing...

Rob, I'm sad knowing that you're searching for a more stable job. I'm crossing my fingers for you.
Anyway, I've got the standard 18-55 and, I know it's a low level lens even if, in some situations it can gives some "little, big satisfaction".
I also bought a Yashica Yashinon 50 f 1/4 with M42 join and adapter for Canon Eos...I've lost the use of the autofocus and...it's a little bit tricky to use it with manual focus but, for landscape or shots where you can use a tripod or a stand...it makes some very good photos. Of course lens with adapter is expensive than the Canon Eos 50 f1/8 wich is a very god lens.
I've alos an Canon EF 85mm f 1/8 USM. This lens is definitvely superb. No words. A blade. Of course it costs very much (almost 400 euros).
The lens I've found very intersting exceptthe ones I wrote you...are all too much expansive for me. ;)
