A statistical note

Tuesday August 7, 2007 at 08:49AM

Using the data collected by the fine Carsten's Ipernity and Flickr Visits Graph, I noticed that after less than two months of activity on Ipernity (and almost complete inactivity on Flickr) the visits on my Ipernity account slowly surpassed that on my Flickr account. My network on Flickr is slightly bigger and in the last weeks I uploaded the same shots on both sites. The visits on the single shots are now normally higher on Ipernity (but for some shots Flickr has sudden raises, I don't know why...). Only the old Beauty and the... Beast shot continue to have a continual flow of visits and faves (but it's stably around 50th place in Explore).

What's your experience?

As a side note: the sum of Flickr and Ipernity visits is similar to the visits to Flickr before migration.

That's completely different for me. Last weeks activity on my flickr stream has increased (it's now clearly somewhere above 1000 visitors a day), while here after a strong increase to up to 90 a day after three weeks, it's now somewhere around 40 on good days. Same for views on my pictures. So I stopped posting new pictures here and concentrate of some best of selection. But only pictures from Germany. It's so euro or german centered here, that's waste of time to post my Japan shots here. That's a pitty, cause I love them more and I think they are much more interesting on average, but why posting something nobody is looking at?

I'm also very disappointed that people seem not to be interested if I give some explanation in my blog on my Japan pictures to help to understand their background. So I stopped this either.

But I'm patient and will wait. I still hope this page will be more international in future and then something else will have a chance to be appreciated.

OK. I think yours is a different dimension. At 1000 visits a day, you're a Flickr celebrity and they visit you even if you don't visit them...

Seen in my account recent activity (?)

I'm not sure about being a celebrity, even I don't feel as one, but partly you're right. I'm not a good net worker in the sense that I'm hurrying around giving faves and comments on my contacts or other people, just to be noticed by them and independent from the quality of their pics. So I think most people are coming cause they want to come, not having the feeling to pay back something to me.

But anyway, it's not the bare numbers I'm complaining about, I do not expect huge numbers of comments from such a small community, but I noticed a slow down of activity. So the gap between the both sites is increasing, not decreasing, as one could expect.

Ahh... don't stop posting your Japan pictures! I love them... and the explanation!!

manganite replies:
No, I will stop post them forever, but at the moment I'm more happy with posting pictures from Germany. I hope as soon as groups are implemented one can do something more Japan related.

Hmm.. But why do you assume that people from Germany want to see pictures about Germany?

I post about ten pics a day here, and one a day on flickr.
About the same number of daily visits, averaging 40, but I get a lot more faves on flickr.
I have about 5 times as many contacts on flickr than ipernity.

I post on ipernity and (again) on flickr, but on flickr I do not allow downloads and there is always a link to my ipernity account

I stopped posting on Flickr just over a month ago and there is still traffic but not that much in the way of feedback. This account has had more traffic and people who have taken the time to leave a comment. Not a surprise for me since most of my visitors before the move were not North American. A few contacts on Ipernity are the same but most are new to me.

I don't know where all the stealth mode visits come from so I don't know if they are from people following the account link on flickr or just people here who like to be anonymous.

if one looks at your stuff not logged in or from another computer somewhere, you get a hits increase which you can't trace :-)

for some reason i never felt as comfortable at flickr as i do here. maybe because i felt like a needle in a haystack there? i don't really track my traffic on either site (i only know that here i've had almost 1900 views total since mid june) but here i've gotten consistent comments while there it's sporadic. i never did post to forums there though... and i didn't post often to groups. i have hardly posted anything there since i opened my account here.
