Autumn

The last few days have taken us out of the EXTREME  SUMMER heat  into crisp Autumnal  weather... my favourite time of the year.

I have been busy marbling  you can see the full story here....  http://www.flickr.com/photos/georgiesharp/sets/68969/

2008

Well Christmas is over and the holidays have begun... only for a few weeks but enough time to unwind and do all those things that get forgotten in the rush...

Wishing everyone a Happy New Year!

La Nina

La Niña translates from Spanish as "the girl-child". The term "La Niña" has recently become the conventional meteorological label for the opposite of the better known El Niño.

The term La Niña refers to the extensive cooling of the central and eastern Pacific Ocean. In Australia (particularly eastern Australia), La Niña events are associated with increased probability of wetter conditions.

Changes to the atmosphere and ocean circulation during La Niña events include:

  • Cooler than normal ocean temperatures across the central and eastern tropical Pacific Ocean.
  • Increased convection or cloudiness over tropical Australia, Papua New-Guinea, and Indonesia.
  • Stronger than normal (easterly) trade winds across the Pacific Ocean (but not necessarily in the Australian region).
  • High (positive) values of the SOI (Southern Oscillation Index).

Weather forcasters are saying we will get rain now....due to a late start to La Nina... apparently the last time there were similar conditions was in 1967.

I have photos from 1968 when creeks flowed, the Flinders Ranfes were lush and green... I look forward to a repeat of those conditions.

T E C H N O L O G Y

Today I held my first Professional Development session via video conferencing!!!

I also videotaped the sessions for people who could not attend...

I ask myself...

How did I get to this place ?

Why is it me and not my colleagues?

What will be next??????

Wine Labels

Yes.....

My photo was chosen for the labels on complementary wine bottles that were given at the opening of the new ANZ ( Australia and New Zealand ) bank.

There is a flurry of activity around new business and houses in this area with the expansion of mining in the north of South Australia.

WORK WORK WORK

  • I was really looking forward to a work trip to Coober Pedy and Oodnadatta but my young travelling companian has the FLU.

In addition the 4 wheel drive vehicle needs to be repaired after it's previous trip when the driver experienced a tyre blow out and subsequently hit a LARGE kangaroo.

I will have to go to the archives to find photos from previous trips.

Coldest Winter for years

We seem to be following the preverbial 100 year weather cycle. This has been one of the coldest July's we have had for some time.

July 14 - Weekend Drive

Carly asked me to accompany her to Port Pirie for shopping. Shopping done we travelled home the back way to Port Augusta on the other side of the Flinders Ranges.... everything was green and beautiful.

Photos placed on the map show the vicinity  ;-)
